Best Mba Programs For Alumni Strength

MBA programs vary substantially between the percent of students who attend full-time versus part-time. Again, this issue may not seem important if you will not be sitting in a classroom together, but it can make a difference. MBA programs assign group project because anyone graduating with a business degree must be able to collaborate in the workplace. If you are working full-time and taking MBA classes at night but are grouped with classmates studying full-time and who have more free time on their hands, friction may arise. Their preferred meeting times and the amount of time they spend on camaraderie rather than focused work may not meet your needs.

Most MBAs at Spain’s IE Business School earn over $160,000 three years after graduation

Tuition fees are high, but MBA grads from the worlds top-ranked business schools can boost their salaries by over 100%

Thu Feb 16 2017

According to the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2017, graduates from the worlds top 30 MBA programs will rake in between $128,000 and $194,000 per year, only three years after graduation. Many will enjoy a salary uplift of over 100%.

Studying at top-ranked US business schools like Harvard and Stanford will cost the average MBA over $100,000, but both two-year MBA programs offer a strong ROI. Stanford MBAs can expect to earn a whopping $193,534 three years after graduation. Harvard MBAs, $177,541.

Global applications to traditional two-year MBAs are in a state of decline. Especially in Europe, one-year MBA programs are on the rise, with INSEAD topping the Financial Times’ MBA rankings for the second consecutive year.

But for the world’s top-ranked two-year MBA programs, the allure of high rates of return mean application numbers continue to grow. In 2016, Harvard MBA applicants grew by 2.45% to 9,543, while applications to the Stanford MBA reached a record 8,116.

If the returns are good, MBA applicants are willing to spend. Heres 12 top-ranked business schools where MBAs grads can expect to earn some serious return on investment:

A New Mba Salary Plus Bonuses

Now, lets weigh the costs stated above against the average starting salary of graduates in 2020s top 132 Full-Time MBA programs: $101,034 as reported by US News & World Report. Important to note is that this average falls in a range from the lowest reported first-year salary to the highest with the latter of these including a signing bonus, a not-uncommon but not-universal component of compensation for new MBA graduates.

This should be very clear: calculating the MBA ROI comes with several variables.

How likely is there to be a signing bonus? Fortune reported in 2021 that top MBA schools saw 60% of graduates being offered signing bonuses. Also, 72% were eligible for performance bonuses. The median signing bonus was worth $30,000 and performance bonuses were $35,000. Sometimes, these bonuses are tied to lower first-year salaries.

Not all schools can report such large levels of compensation and bonuses. But the Fortune article says the larger and more prestigious employers Amazon, Boston Consulting Group, and McKinsey among them are finding some of the brightest students in the world and then equipping them with the potent combination of hard and soft skills that firms desperately need.

These are skills that any student at any business school can acquire. And note: when it comes to the long-term return on investment, or ROI, first-year salaries do not tell the entire story.

Roi Of An Mba Is Highly Misleading:

In fact, many MBAs do earn more money after graduation. Across the business, MBA salaries are high. And for graduates of elite Business Schools, they are very high. At the same time, yet, there are significant costs associated with pursuing an MBA which might ranges from Rs 3.0 Lakhs to 30 Lakhs in India for two years. And surprisingly tuition fees for top MBA/PGDM programs in India and abroad continue to rise. The number of aspirants every year is growing. For many, paying for Business School means taking on the loan, which can hang on for five to ten years. For full-timer MBAs, theres also an enormous opportunity cost linked with taking time off from work and this happens usually during prime working years to pursue an MBA.

The Investment Of An Mba Falls Into A Broad Range

Business students come from different backgrounds, have different goals, possess varying aptitudes, and draw from a range of personal resources available to them. These factors play heavily into which university and MBA program they decide to enroll in.

With this being said, not all MBAs are alike and there are variations on program emphases within business schools. Those can be in business analytics, digital information and information systems, dispute resolution, entrepreneurship, finance, leadership and organizational change, marketing, and even some schools offer concentrations in entertainment, media, and sports management. While these concentrations imbue the student with specific skills, it also illustrates a capacity to master a very broad range of executive capacities needed by just about any enterprise.

An important reward for people who earn an MBA are the kinds of jobs they qualify for with a higher-level degree. MBAs are clearly a means to advance ones career, including higher levels of responsibility and a more senior title. In almost all cases, this largely translates into a higher salary as well.

Is there a general way to assess how an MBA salary will pay for the hard work and financial investment that you put into it?

Deriving The Roi Value

To calculate the ROI of MBA programs, youd need to know the average post-MBA salary and then weigh it against the program cost. The program duration is an important factor as the expense would significantly increase for a two year MBA as against a one year program.

Financial Times releases its annual global MBA rankings for colleges/universities. Various parameters are also analysed and colleges ranked accordingly. Value for money which is indicative of a program ROI is one such parameter. This value is calculated by dividing the post-MBA alumni salary three years after graduating by the total cost of the program. This cost would take into account the MBA tuition, and related expenses as well as the opportunity cost minus the scholarship or any financial aid obtained.

Based on FTs Value for money rankings , heres the list of schools according to their geography.
