How Can I Receive My Dividends And Capital Gains Distributions

When you own shares of mutual funds or stocks, you might receive distributions from these investments in the form of dividends and/or capital gains. In most cases, you can choose how to receive these distributions. The most common methods include reinvesting the money to buy more shares of the mutual fund or stock, moving the money into your cash account, and/or sending the money to another Fidelity mutual fund.

While you can update most accounts and securities online, please note that you cannot make changes to IRA-BDAs and PAS accounts. Additionally, certain types of business accounts won’t permit you to update dividends and capital gains distributions online unless you have full authority. There are some securities that can’t be updated, regardless of the account type.

How Do I Log In To My Account

If you have already created log in details, you need to click on the ‘Log in’ button, which is located in the top right hand corner of the homepage. You can get to the homepage by clicking on the Fidelity logo in the top left. Here you will be asked to enter the username and password you created.

If this is the first time you are logging into your account online, you will need to click on the ‘Register for online access’ button which is also in the top right hand corner of the homepage. There is a guide available to help you through the registration process. Please note, if you have a middle name and we have it on our records, you need to enter it in the ‘first name’ box. You can check your paperwork to see how we address letters to you for confirmation.

If you have recently sent us an application form for the first time, and are not yet set up online, you will need to wait for your welcome pack which will contain your Customer Reference Number. We send this out by post the day after we receive your application.

Closing The Youth Account

  • How can I close my teen’s Fidelity Youth Account?

    Either you or your teen can close the Youth Account at any time. When the account is closed, any securities in the account must be sold and the proceeds will be disbursed by check in your teen’s name. Securities cannot be transferred in kind. Please contact a Fidelity representative at 800-343-3548 to process your request.

Finding An Existing Fidelity Login

If an account login has already been set up, the username and password can be retrieved by navigating to Fidelitys web browser or mobile app and selecting Forgot username or password? Then, enter your information and verify your identity to retrieve the username or reset the password.

    Your teen should receive a welcome email or text when its time to set up their username/password. If this step hasn’t happened, they won’t be able to set up a username/password. If they have completed this step, they can try using this link to establish their login credentials.

Creating A New Login For A Fidelity Account

Registering for online or mobile access to a Fidelity account is relatively simple. To set up online access to an existing Fidelity account:

  • Go to the Fidelity Login screen online or on the Fidelity mobile app.
  • Enter name, date of birth and the last four digits of the Social Security number associated with the account.
  • Follow the prompts to complete the registration process and set up the account username and password.
  • Once the registration process is complete, the Fidelity account can be accessed online or via the mobile app. These login credentials can be used across all Fidelity service channels associated with the account holders Social Security number.

    The Dividends and Capital GainsLog In Required page displays your account information. Find the security or mutual fund you want to change. Under Action, select Update and you’ll see the Update Distributions page.

    To update a security:

    • On the Update Distributions page, you’ll see dividends and capital gains combined in one rowyou cannot change them separately.
    • Make your selection and choose whether you want to apply the change to all current equity positions in this account and/or all future equity purchases, transfers, and deposits.
    • Select Update. You’ll see a confirmation page that specifies the change you made with a link to change distributions on another account.

    To update amutual fund:

    • On the Update Distributions page, you’ll see dividends and capital gains in separate rowsyou can choose a different distribution option for each.

    Note: You may see a column for Directed . If so, you can direct the dividends and capital gains into one of your Fidelity mutual funds. This option is unavailable for future purchases, transfers, and deposits.

    • Make your selection and choose whether you want to apply the change to all current mutual funds in this account and/or future mutual fund purchases, transfers, and deposits.
    • Select Update. You’ll see a confirmation page that specifies the change you made with a link to change distributions on another account.

    Add Tough Security Questions

    Although we prompt you to set at least one security question, you can boost your login protection by selecting up to three additional questions. We may prompt you with one of these security questions when you log in from a different computer or mobile device, and when you change your password.

    Make your answers easy enough for you to remember, but hard for anyone else to guess. Answers are not case sensitive, so don’t worry about capitalization. Your answers can be as long as 31 characters.

    Don’t share security questions with anyone. You can select new security questions or change your answers anytime in Security CenterLog In Required.

    Good faith violation example 2:Cash available to trade = $10,000, all of which is settled

    • On Monday morning, the customer purchases $10,000 of XYZ stock.
    • On Monday mid-day, the customer sells the XYZ stock for $10,500.
    • At this point, no good faith violation has occurred because the customer had sufficient funds for the purchase of XYZ stock at the time the purchase was made.
    • Near market close, the customer purchases $10,500 of ABC stock.
    • A good faith violation will occur if the customer sells the ABC stock prior to Wednesday when Monday’s sale of XYZ stock settles and the proceeds of that sale are available to fully pay for the purchase of ABC stock.

    Good faith violation example 3:Cash available to trade = $15,000, of which $5,000 is from an unsettled sell order from Friday that is due to settle on Tuesday.

    • On Monday morning, the customer purchases $15,000 of ABC stock.
    • The purchase is not considered fully paid for because the $5,000 in proceeds from the sale of stock from the previous Friday will not settle until Tuesday.
    • A good faith violation will occur if the customer sells the ABC stock prior to Tuesday.

    A cash liquidation violation occurs when a customer purchases securities and the cost of those securities is covered after the purchase date by the sale of other fully paid securities in the cash account.

    Ways To Use A Fidelity Login

    Once logged in to a Fidelity account, whether online or via the mobile app, account holders can view account information and statements, transfer funds, access tax forms and more. The account information accessed and transactions performed will vary by account type.
